Answering the Call: How the Rinaldi Project Responds to the Evolving Needs of Military Families
By Ensley Howell | The Rinaldi Project
This May, We Honor and Act
May is Military Appreciation Month—a time to recognize the service, strength, and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. But at The Rinaldi Project, we believe appreciation must go beyond thank-you posts and ceremonial gestures.
It must be actionable. Adaptive. Responsive.
Because military families today are facing new challenges—some visible, many not. And we’ve made it our mission to stay one step ahead in meeting those needs.
Our Community Is Changing. So Are Their Needs.
Every year, thousands of veterans separate from the military. Spouses shift careers. Children transition schools. The pace of relocation, inflation, mental health strain, and financial uncertainty grows.
Here are just a few of the evolving realities military families now face:
Increased demand for mental health access
Greater need for remote-friendly and portable careers
Rising child care costs preventing spouse reentry into the workforce
Veterans struggling with tech-based job qualifications despite leadership experience
And as these needs shift, we evolve with them.
How The Rinaldi Project Stays Agile
Our team continuously refines our five-phase model to ensure it remains relevant and responsive:
We’ve added virtual therapy and telehealth options for rural and remote families
We now offer digital literacy and IT certification tracks for veterans pursuing modern industries
Spouses receive targeted career coaching and flexible training stipends
We collect real-time feedback from program graduates and adjust offerings accordingly
We’ve launched financial literacy micro-sessions to help families navigate economic uncertainty
This isn’t a set-it-and-forget-it nonprofit. We’re a living, breathing system of support—built for today’s realities.
Spotlight: How We Stepped In for One Family
Earlier this year, the Carters—a dual-military couple with two children—reached out after both parents were unexpectedly transitioned from active duty within months of each other.
Suddenly, they were job hunting, adjusting to civilian life, and managing school drop-offs—all while navigating grief and stress.
With donor support, The Rinaldi Project provided:
Career coaching for both parents
Mental health counseling
Child care stipends during training
Spouse coaching for financial planning
They now both have full-time careers, and their kids are back on track academically.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day (May 10)
Let’s not forget the often unsung heroes—spouses who manage entire households solo, who sacrifice careers, and who serve in every way except wearing the uniform.
We see you. And our program exists for you too.
Memorial Day (May 27)
We honor the fallen this month—but we also commit to serving the living.
Every life impacted by The Rinaldi Project is a continuation of that sacrifice.
You Help Us Adapt. You Help Us Lead.
Every donation you make allows us to stay responsive to what veterans and families need now—not what worked five years ago.
This isn’t just about gratitude. It’s about growth. And it takes all of us.
