May with Meaning: A Veteran’s Journey Through Service, Identity, and Honor

As the calendar turns to May, the nation enters a month steeped in symbolism, gratitude, and reflection. From lighthearted cultural celebrations to solemn national tributes, May offers powerful reminders of the sacrifices made by our military community—and the challenges they continue to face when the uniform comes off.

At The Rinaldi Project, we exist to support veterans and military families as they transition into civilian life. We provide structured, meaningful programs focused on education, career development, mental health, and family wellness. Each milestone this month connects to the very heart of our mission.

May 4 – Star Wars Day: The Unknown Mission

While the galaxy celebrates fictional heroes, real-life veterans are on their own heroic journey. Transitioning to civilian life is not an ending, but the beginning of a new, uncertain mission. Without a roadmap, many veterans face a world lacking structure, support, and understanding. This is where we step in—helping them translate service into civilian strength.

May 5 – Cinco de Mayo: Culture Is Strength

Our nation’s military is built on diversity. Latino and Hispanic veterans bring deep cultural pride and resilience to their service, and they deserve resources tailored to their communities. Through The Rinaldi Project, we advocate for inclusive programming that reflects the backgrounds and needs of all who served.

May 11 – Mother’s Day: Honoring Women Who Carry the Load

Military mothers and spouses are often the quiet force behind the mission. Whether they served directly or held the family together from the homefront, they face distinct challenges. Our career and wellness programs are designed to support these women as they navigate life beyond service.

May 12 – International Nurses Day: Serving Those Who Healed

Military medics and nurses serve under extreme conditions, often carrying emotional and physical burdens long after their final patient. We honor their continued sacrifices by prioritizing mental health services and recovery resources within our veteran wellness track.

May 20 – Armed Forces Day: Preparing for What’s Next

For those still in uniform, The Rinaldi Project offers a bridge to their next chapter. Through coaching, transition planning, and education, we equip today’s service members for a successful future in civilian leadership and beyond.

All Month – Mental Health Awareness: The Battle Within

Veterans are statistically more likely to struggle with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and isolation. In Phase 3 of our Veteran Journey, we provide peer support groups, individual therapy connections, and financial wellness coaching to help address the invisible wounds of service.

May 26 – Memorial Day: Honoring the Fallen Through Action

On Memorial Day, we remember those who gave everything. At our Murph Challenge event hosted at CrossFit Whittier, we will gather not just to sweat, but to reflect, honor, and recommit to our purpose. Funds raised from this event go directly toward the programs that carry veterans forward.

How You Can Help

This May, be part of the journey. Whether you donate, partner with us, or simply share our mission, your support fuels transformation. Because service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. It evolves—and so must the systems that support our veterans.
